what our colleagues and students have to say about us

Karen and I attended Southeastern Louisiana University together. She is a superb musician and outstanding private instructor. She taught at whatever level the students happened to be and did not teach “over their heads.” We played in the orchestras of many operas and musicals together and even did some studio work together, recording albums for the musical group, the Dameans. In those many pit orchestras we played, her sight-reading skills were second to none. Her performances were musical and flawless. It was a pleasure to sit next to such a quality musician.

Karen is a dedicated teacher and musician. She communicates that she cares about her students through her dedication to their individual needs. She is very creative in her approach to working with others, and her students seem to respond to her methods. I enjoyed working with her immensely.

I came into lessons with many setbacks that this teacher helped me overcome, including physical pain while playing and practicing, and disappointment in myself with my slow progress. At the end of our time together, I went from having basic knowledge about playing to understanding where I am weak so that I can work at fixing it and continue to dive into more difficult work. She was very good at not letting me repeat the same mistakes and did it in a very respectful manner. She also did not let me just play the notes on the page. She ensured that every time I blew my horn, I was thinking musically with the phrase. Overall, I think this was a very educating experience and will return for lessons in the future.

Always punctual. Always prepared for lessons with theory material and music books. Has a good ear for music and can tell if I missed a note or played a note incorrectly. It is also nice that Karen can play the music, so I can hear how it goes.
